This type of evaluation is recommended for individuals who are experiencing hearing difficulties, noticing changes in their hearing, dealing with tinnitus, or have a family history of hearing loss. A comprehensive hearing assessment helps determine the type and degree of any hearing loss. If results show normal hearing, additional tests such as speech-in-noise or ultra-high frequency testing may be conducted to further evaluate hearing abilities. After the exam, the audiologist will review your results and offer personalized recommendations to support your hearing health.
This type of testing may be recommended if your child shows signs of speech or language delays, has frequent ear infections, or did not pass a hearing screening. We offer age-appropriate hearing assessments for infants and children using specialized techniques such as Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE), Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA), Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA), and wideband tympanometry. These tools allow us to carefully evaluate hearing ability and middle ear function in a welcoming, child-friendly environment, ensuring a positive and comfortable experience for our youngest patients.
Central auditory processing is what the brain does with the sounds our ears hear. While the ears detect sound, the brain must organize and interpret this information so we can make sense of it. When there are difficulties in this process, known as Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), it can affect how a person understands and responds to sounds in everyday life.
Individuals with CAPD have trouble making sense of what they hear. This can lead to problems such as telling where sounds are coming from, understanding speech in noisy environments, recognizing slight differences in similar-sounding words, or following spoken instructions. Because these symptoms can look similar to other conditions like ADHD or learning disabilities, accurate diagnosis is essential to ensure the right support is provided.
Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) evaluations are available for individuals aged 5 and older with normal hearing. While assessments can begin at age 5, it’s important to understand that auditory processing skills are still developing at this age, and there is a wide range of what is considered typical. Normative data becomes more stable around age 7, making this the ideal age for a full diagnostic evaluation and formal diagnosis of CAPD. These assessments help identify how a child processes sound and guide recommendations for support at home and in the classroom.
We provide comprehensive hearing instrument services, including consultation, fitting, and follow-up care for both new and existing devices. Our audiologists work with all major manufacturers, Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Rexton, Signia, Starkey, Unitron, and Widex to help you find a solution that fits your hearing needs, lifestyle, and budget. Using best practices like real ear measurements and validation techniques, we ensure your devices are precisely adjusted for optimal benefit. We also offer repairs and servicing, even if your devices were fit elsewhere.
Excess earwax can lead to discomfort, muffled hearing, or dizziness. Audiologists are trained to safely remove earwax using a variety of techniques, including manual removal and irrigation. When appropriate, the Earrigator™ system, a gentle, water-based method is used for safe and comfortable cleaning.
We offer comprehensive evaluations for dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance using advanced diagnostic tools such as Videonystagmography (VNG), Rotary Chair, Bertec Postural Testing, Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT), and Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (cVEMP and oVEMP). These assessments help identify inner ear and neurological causes of balance disorders. We also offer repositioning treatment for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
A tinnitus evaluation is an in-depth assessment for individuals experiencing bothersome ringing, buzzing, or other sounds in the ears. The tinnitus evaluation includes targeted questionnaires to understand how tinnitus affects your daily life, along with diagnostic tests such as pitch matching, loudness matching, minimum masking levels, and residual inhibition testing to better understand the characteristics of your tinnitus. Based on the results, we offer evidence-based, mindfulness-informed treatment options to help reduce tinnitus symptoms and improve your quality of life.
For individuals experiencing sensitivity to sound, we provide a thorough evaluation to assess the impact of sounds on your well-being. This assessment includes targeted questionnaires to identify triggers and determine the severity of sound sensitivity. We offer personalized, patient-centered treatment strategies to help manage and reduce the discomfort caused by sound sensitivity.
The ABR is a non-invasive test used to assess how sound travels from the ear to the brainstem. It is particularly useful for evaluating hearing in infants, individuals with complex needs, or those with suspected auditory nerve or brainstem involvement. The test is conducted during natural sleep, ensuring a comfortable and relaxed environment for patients while providing accurate results. This test may also be referred to as Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER), Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP), Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA), or Evoked Auditory Brainstem Response (EABR), depending on the specific context.
Newborn hearing screenings (NBHS) are important for the early detection of hearing loss, which is critical for healthy speech, language, and cognitive development. Since this screening is performed during natural sleep, it's recommended to keep your baby awake prior to testing to increase the likelihood they will sleep during the procedure. Once the test is set up, you will be given time to feed and soothe your baby to sleep before the screening begins.
